Retiree William (Bill) Prentice from the Los Angeles County Fire Department is a proud supporter of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), and heads to Zimbabwe in May to raise funds to provide opportunities and support to people with physical challenges. He will be a team member of 8 paddlers attempting to paddle canoes 186 miles in 10 days across Lake Kariba situated on the Zambezi River north of Zimbabwe. Lake Kariba nestles in the Zambezi Valley where the mighty Zambezi River was dammed in 1958 to provide hyrdoelectric power. The Zambezi River is considered by many to be the worlds most dangerous river inhabited by predatory animals; hippos and crocodiles infesting its waters. Lion, elephant, leopard, and Cape buffalo still graze and hunt on its shores. In July, 2021, Bill mountain biked with The Old Legs Tour where he peddled approximatly 2,000 miles from Zimbabwe to Uganda over 30 days to raise funds for a Zimbabwe charity called ZANE. This year, Bill has decided to bring his fundraising efforts closer to home. He teams up with The Old Legs once again who trade their peddles for paddles for this epic crossing and are able to provide the logistical support for the venture. This is not a relay, each member will paddle the entire 186 miles.
